βž• Connecting an X Account

Connecting an X account takes one authorization: you pick the project, approve a read-only X authorization, and Fren One starts monitoring immediately. There is no bot to install and no verification step β€” the X account itself becomes the community in your project.

Before you start

  • Decide which project should own the account. A project is a workspace that groups your communities, team, and settings. See the Projects docs for how projects, teams, and billing fit together.
  • You need to be an Owner or Project Admin of that project β€” the wizard only lists projects you can manage.
  • Have access to the X account itself: the authorization happens on X, signed in as that account.

Connect an account

  1. Open the Fren One webapp and select Add Community (or Create Project if you're starting fresh β€” the same wizard runs with a project-naming step first).
  2. On the platform step, choose X β€” the card reads "Connect an X account to monitor its activity and mentions."
  3. When adding to an existing project, pick it in the "Add to project" selector. Only projects you can manage are listed.
  4. Review the authorization card β€” "Authorize Fren One to monitor this X account:" β€” which spells out exactly what you're granting:
    • Read the account's public profile and posts
    • Monitor activity only β€” no posting on your behalf
  5. Select Connect with X. You're sent to X to approve the authorization, then returned to the wizard. The account is created and assigned to your project automatically β€” there are no further steps.
Monitoring only β€” posting comes later

The connect wizard never asks for posting permission. This first authorization is strictly read-only. If you later want Fren One to publish scheduled posts on the account's behalf, that's a separate re-authorization you trigger from inside the πŸ“† Tweet Scheduler β€” you can compose drafts in the meantime.

Gathering your first stats

On success, the wizard runs a first sync right away so your dashboard isn't blank, showing its progress as it goes: "Connecting to X…", "Fetching follower count…", "Pulling recent mentions…", "Setting up your dashboard…". When it completes, result pills summarize what it found β€” "{count} followers" and "{count} mentions found".

If the sync takes longer than the wizard waits, you'll see "Your X account is connected. Your stats will finish syncing shortly." instead β€” the data catches up on its own.

Re-connecting an account that's already in the same project is safe: the wizard reports "This X account is already connected to this project β€” we've refreshed the connection."

When your data arrives

  • Immediately on connect β€” profile details, follower count, and recent mentions (with sentiment) from the first sync.
  • Within roughly two hours β€” the full picture arrives with the recurring sync that runs about every two hours: follower-change tracking, reply-based signals, and Listening results.

If authorization fails

MessageWhat it means
"This X account may already be managed in Fren One. Ask your team for an invite."The account is already connected somewhere. If it belongs to a teammate's project, ask them for an invite to that project.
"This project has reached its X account limit."The project can't hold another X account. Connect it to a different project, or review your plan.
"X authorization failed. Please try again."A transient error during the X authorization. Run the wizard again.

Who can configure the account

Unlike Discord and Telegram, X has no per-community verification β€” access is decided entirely by your project role:

  • Owners and Project Admins manage everything: connecting accounts, Listening, Brand Voice, and composing in the Tweet Scheduler.
  • Other project members can view the Overview statistics and the scheduler queue, but the manager-only surfaces show a lock notice.
  • Billing-only members are locked out of X pages entirely.

Staff-connected accounts

Fren One staff can connect an account by handle, without the account holder authorizing anything. These accounts carry an "Unverified β€” monitoring only" badge on the Overview and are monitoring-only β€” statistics and mentions work, but nothing that requires the account's own authorization.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

No data on the dashboard yet?

  • The first sync starts the moment you connect β€” give it a minute, then refresh the Overview.
  • Follower-change alerts, reply-based signals, and Listening results wait for the recurring sync, which runs roughly every two hours. An empty dashboard right after connecting is normal.

The account shows as needing reconnecting?

  • You'll see an "X account needs reconnecting" alert in your project inbox, and the Tweet Scheduler shows a "Reconnect your X account" banner. Reconnect from there β€” scheduled posts stay queued until posting resumes.

The wizard says the account may already be managed?

  • Someone (possibly a teammate) has already connected it. Ask your team for an invite to the project that holds it β€” Fren One won't reveal which project that is.
